A game is a well-defined, organized form of play, normally undertaken for fun or entertainment, and at times used as an instructional tool. Games are quite different from work, which often is carried out for monetary remuneration, and even from literature, which is often more of an expressive or aesthetic element. It is impossible to think of a game as having an objective, although some may attempt to use objective statements to suggest the point of any game. Despite attempts by some people to create universal, interactive games that could be used by all people as entertainment, it remains an empirical matter whether F95ZONE or not all games have an objective, meaning the games’ authors would have to agree on this.
The Prisoner’s Dilemma is considered by many to be one of the most famous games in existence. The Prisoner’s Dilemma was created by the American mathematician John Cage in 1937. He set up the game with four prisoners, each designated with a letter of the alphabet; the goal being to make all of the other prisoners surrender without giving up any letters. If they do so, they will be allowed to live and will be spared.
The game is divided into two parts, the first part involves the development of strategies by the players, who are to build up a network of cells by themselves, while the second part consists of using these strategies to eliminate all of the other cells. Each player has a finite number of tries to make all the other prisoners surrender, though this starts to decrease rapidly after the first part is completed. In order to gain the most points, the player has to develop strategies using both the dictator game theory and the prisoner’s dilemma. The essence of the first part of the strategy is to ensure the network of cells grows, by making the other players surrender without retaliation, while the second part of the strategy is to devise a way to make the prison walls collapse and let the group escape.
This unique game has even been made into an electronic format, where one can play it online for free. However, while playing in this manner one must be sure that it is not a game that uses Nash equilibrium, because if so then the players would have to play an unequal game, meaning that one player would have advantage over the others. As we see when playing the prisoner’s dilemma, it is possible for one player to get ahead of the other by using his knowledge of the prisoner’s dilemma, while non-cooperative players can never have this advantage.
In order for the players to have equal chances of winning or settling on a particular strategy, both players must agree to it before proceeding. And if either player is ready to go to another round, he can withdraw from the current round and choose a new player. Otherwise, the player that chose to stay will be forced to start again with all his capital at stake. Nash equilibrium is the main reason why this game is considered to be the most well-known and also one of the most applied game theory.
There are various strategies that can be employed in this game e.g., you can make your units move faster and thus have a higher chance of winning the battle. Or you can build structures which can be helpful to your opponent. On the other hand, you can form alliances with different player and use their combined effort to beat your opponent. Nevertheless, before you decide upon a particular strategy, you should be sure that the players are following the game rules and that it will not cause them any harm if they follow your strategy.
